The Friendship Bracelet NFT collection by artblocks_io founder ArtOnBlockchain and generative artist MacTuitui rose to the top of Opensea’s leaderboard on Tuesday after its free claim period ended.

Here’s what we know:

Friendship Bracelets is the latest generative art project from Erick Calderon, which was available free of cost for any Art Blocks NFT holders. Created in partnership with André, the pieces feature embroidery floss colours.

In essence, the two artists collaborated to represent digital art as a meaningful physical object using the strands of a childhood bracelet.

While Calderon conceptualized the 38,413-piece collection, Alexis André (aka MacTuitui)  aesthetically and programmatically designed it. Notably, the pieces are Art Blocks’ way of appreciating the creators, makers, builders, and collectors who have been essential to the platform’s growth.

The collection was free to mint for holders of existing Art Blocks NFTs until the claim period ended on Tuesday, sending its value soaring on the secondary market.

The collection had the highest 24-hour trading volume on OpenSea at 996 ETH (over $1.3 million) and amassed a total trading volume of 7,437 ETH (about $9.9 million).

“The project is a token of our appreciation to the creators, makers, builders, and collectors who have all contributed to making the Art Blocks community what it is today,” said Art Blocks on its collection page. “Participating in this project is a signal, both online and IRL, that you’re a participant in this evolution of art and community.”
