Steven Soderbergh Presents Blockchain Award to NFT-Financed Film Calladita

“Calladita,” a new film by director Miguel Faus, was named the winner of the Andrews/Bernard Award, established by renowned director Steven Soderbergh and the Decentralized Pictures platform.

Here’s what we know:

Last March, following his short film, Calladita, Miguel Faus directed a new feature film of the same name and launched an NFT collection to fund this film. The collection was launched on March 2, 2022, on the Calladita website.

Unlike traditional films, the team behind Calladita financed the film using NFTs. The film features British actress Emily Mortimer (Match Point, The Newsroom) and actors Antonio de la Torre (El reino, La trinchera infinita) and Susana Abaitúa (Patria).

“Calladita” tells the story of Ana and, according to Faus, is a portrait of the Catalan high bourgeoisie, with a mix of realism and satire.

In addition to launching the main NFT collection, Faus has also developed partnerships with various artists who will create the Calladita Art Collection. This collection will consist of a series of 1/1 NFT pieces inspired by Calladita and created especially for this campaign. The profits will be distributed equally between the artists and the film budget.

The Calladita NFT collection will be minted on Ethereum and comprises 2,400 NFTs structured in 4 Tiers. Owning these NFTs will grant buyers access to benefits such as appearing in the credits of the film, or visiting the set.

This new feature film is based on the short film Calladita. Both films have been directed and written by Miguel Faus, a renowned screenwriter, and director who has participated in several international festivals (including the Palm Springs ShortFest, the Miami Film Festival, and the London Short Film Festival).

“This movie started as a crazy idea in my mind that maybe I could fund my first feature through an NFT collection, and a few months later, thanks to 500 degens on the internet who believed in us and minted our NFTs, we got to make the movie,” Faus said. “To have it now awarded by a legend of independent cinema like Steven is a dream come true.”
